2017 Burns’ Night Dinner Celebration

January 20, 2017 @ 6:30 pm11:00 pm

Banish the mid-winter blahs with some “richt guid” cheer at our annual celebration of Robert Burns on

Friday, January 20, 2017 at 6:30pm at the University Club of Toronto. The event follows the time-

honoured format with the traditional piping-in of and Address to the Haggis, Toasts to the Lassies and

Laddies and The Immortal Memory.

This year we are delighted to welcome as our special guests The Honourable Bob Rae PC CC OOnt QC

and his wife Arlene Perly Rae. Bob will toast “The Immortal Memory. All of us will be familiar with Bob

Rae in the context of politics and public life. Those who have heard Bob speaking at Burns Dinners or

other informal events will already know that his remarks are bound to be greatly entertaining.

In keeping with one of the objectives of our Society, supporting Scottish culture, we plan on shedding

light on the meaning of some of the more obscure language in Burns’s poetry! The evening’s

entertainment will be rounded off by various members of the Society reading a selection of Burns’s

poems followed by “English translations”. Should be fun!

Price is $130 all inclusive for meal, taxes, wines with dinner and entertainment. The ticket price

includes a charitable donation to the St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation—to be designated to Inner

City charities. Please provide your address so that the donation receipt can be forwarded to you.

For the past 2 or 3 years this event has been a “sell out” with the result that several Society and

University Club members were unable to be accommodated, so don’t delay in making your

application for tickets.
